Meet Peter Bruce, MA

I believe in working from the inside out with my clients to help them step beyond coping and into healing. My clients often come to me after feeling “stuck” or “frustrated” that other therapies they have tried did not give them the results they were looking for. It is my experience that as humans we have an innate healing ability inside of us, and this ability often gets blocked by our anxieties, depression and fears from past traumas. And by bringing clarity and compassion to these symptoms we are able to unburden and permanently heal these wounds, and finally feel the inner peace and harmony we have longed for.

I use the cutting edge and evidence-based model of Internal Family Systems to help my clients achieve these results. I have been a client of and trained in IFS for the past 5 years and have experienced first hand the profound and permanent healing the model has to offer.

When working with couples, I continue to use this inside out approach to help them increase intimacy and communication within the relationship by helping each individual better understand their own wants and needs and helping them become intimate and aware of their own thoughts, feelings and emotions. Relationships can often be triggering and bring out parts of us we never knew existed, and therefore couples therapy can be a very dynamic and fruitful experience, building a deep sense of intimacy, trust in love for our partner, and for ourselves.

In families, I strive to take a “parents first” approach to support and guide them through the many challenges modern parents face. It is my experience that parents often feel overwhelmed, blamed and undervalued in their families and society as a whole. It’s my belief and experience that parents know their children best and when they are better able to understand themselves, they naturally tend to their children and families in a vibrant and confident manner, creating harmony inside themselves and the home.

I obtained my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University and my Bachelor’s in Sociology from DePaul University. My previous experience includes working in the child welfare system and well as being a youth and high school baseball coach for over 10 years.
