Meet julia bove, msmft

Welcome! Beginning therapy may be bringing you all sorts of mixed emotions, and I understand the vulnerability it requires to reach out for help. Thank you for being here and for visiting my page!

Dr. Irvin Yalom coined the term "fellow travelers" to describe the relationship between therapist and client. I think this is a beautiful representation of my role in your journey: my goal is to be alongside you through life's twists and turns and to help you navigate them. In doing this, I aim to be a facilitator of the healing process. I bring a calm and inviting presence, and I lead with curiosity and acceptance. I welcome clients from all backgrounds and identities into my space and strive to always create a safe and inclusive environment.

As a systemic and relationship therapist, I believe in focusing on relationships as a method toward change because we are all a product of the people that raised us and the systems which we are a part of. I utilize Integrative Systemic Therapy, which emphasizes the need to customize therapy to each individual client. While I draw from a variety of models, I often gravitate towards Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and mindfulness-based practices.

I have experience working with individuals of all ages in the lifespan, couples, as well as families. I am especially passionate about working with couples on strengthening and repairing intimate relationships with presenting issues such as communication, trust, infidelity, intimacy, parenting, and finances. I also utilize discernment counseling for couples who aren't sure of the future of their relationship. Additionally, I am passionate about working with teens and emerging adults focusing on anxiety, identity, self-confidence, and relationship challenges with family and intimate partners.

I obtained my Master of Science in Marriage & Family Therapy from Northwestern University and received my clinical training at the Bette D. Harris Family & Child Clinic at the Family Institute. While at Northwestern, I worked as a research assistant for Dr. Alexandra Solomon researching topics related to intimate relationships. I also served as a Teaching Assistant for Dr. Solomon's popular undergraduate course, Building Loving and Lasting Relationships: Marriage 101. Prior to my graduate studies, I worked in business as well as education and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Delaware.

If you think that we would be a good fit, feel free to contact me by email or phone! I am excited to hear from you and to have the opportunity to partner with you on your journey!
