Meet juhyun lee, amft

Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful parts of us.

- David Richo

Every individual carries their own inner wounds that need to be dealt with. I believe therapy can help us progress on our healing journey when we are empathetically understood and listened to. When we discover our hidden strengths as resources, we are empowered to better understand and relate to ourselves and those around us. When we start to see our originally rigid pattern of thoughts from multiple angles, we will have a greater capacity to understand the situations we find ourselves in more objectively. Change occurs when people increase self-esteem, discover their strengths and who they are, and understand the blocks keeping them from improving.

Emotionally secure attachments to our partners and family members enable us to go through difficult times while adapting to changes in internal and external environments. When couples and families find a secure haven within themselves, they can count on each other and learn how to adjust. Art Therapy and the art-making process can naturally help explore underlying emotions and thoughts that were not found before. It also enhances the regulation of unhealthy emotions such as shame, anger, anxiety, and agony without verbal process.

I am excited to bring various experiences to our therapy room as a Marriage and Family Therapy and provisional Art therapist. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Art Design from Ewha Woman’s University in South Korea, and a master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Wheaton College in Illinois. I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Art Therapy at Adler University. I believe art is universal, and the art-making process can help us explore ourselves in less threatening ways than verbal therapy alone. I am honored to bring a systemic perspective and creative approach in order to have holistic healing for clients.

I offer therapy in Korean as well.
