Richard Park, LMFT
AAMFT-APPROVED SUPERVISOR
Hi, I'm Richard. I got my BS in psychology at Loyola University here in Chicago, and then went to Adler University for my MA in couple and family therapy. I completed my clinical internship at The Kedzie Center, and worked at Kenneth Young Center, before joining Chicago Center for Relationship Counseling and starting my own practice. I am an AAMFT Approved Supervisor.
At these environments, I was introduced to multiple ways of helping clients; family systems, psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, and CBT/DBT. I was able to see the strengths and limitations of these theories, and through that experience(s), found out what my natural strengths, limitations, and inclinations were.
Good supervision is helpful, because it does give you clarity on your natural inclinations, strengths, and limitations. Theory can be learned through personal reading and research, but I found that understanding yourself and evolving as a therapist is best done in an ongoing supervisory relationship. I want us to both understand who you are as a therapist, and help you feel confident and flexible in your role. Having a supervisory experience that is too rigid limits your growth. Conversely, having a supervisory experience that is too open ended can also be stressful, when you are a new therapist, and/or new to relational therapy. I will always do my best to help you grow in the way that is natural to you, so please reach out to me anytime, as I am happy to hear what your thoughts are.
