Madalyn Simpson, LMFT

(She/her/hers)

What drew me to the practice of therapy rings true more in 2022 than ever before: connection. At a time in the world that demands distance, it is expected and understandable that we may find ourselves feeling isolated or disconnected from our communities, our intimate relationships, ourselves or our values. With a collaborative, strength-based, nonjudgmental approach, I strive to create a therapeutic space that opens the door to reconnecting by taking a curious, compassionate stance towards the self and the interconnected systems in which we are located.

As a systemic, DBT-informed clinician, I believe in a radical genuineness: bringing my direct, authentic self to my work and the therapeutic relationships. I enjoy working with individuals and couples around topics of intimacy, communication, and conflict management, and am an LGBTQ+-, kink-, and non-monogamy-affirming clinician. I bring an integrative, mindful lens to therapy, tailoring each client’s treatment to their unique identities, needs, and co-created relational dynamics, pulling interventions from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Internal Family Systems.

I have worked in the mental health field for 10 years in state hospital, residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient levels of care, and bring this acute experience and understanding to every client in front of me. I received a Bachelors in Psychology from UC Berkeley, and a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Family Institute at Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, I completed an internship in DBT and facilitated weekly skills-based therapy groups for both individuals and families. As a lifelong student, I am currently pursuing education towards a Sex Therapy certification, and am committed to cultural humility as I grow towards expanding my lens and work as an anti-racist clinician.
