Workshop 8: Intimacy & Sex

30.00

November 22nd 2019, 11am-2pm

Presenters: Grace Norberg & Thomas Bateman

Some of the most urgent issues couples bring to therapy arise around intimacy and sex, and this workshop will look at both basics of assessment & intervention and explore culturally specific issues around sex. First of all, assessment skills are vital in determining whether medical reasons, psychological reasons, or both are at the root of sex and intimacy problems. We will also discuss interventions therapists can use in the room or as homework with clients to help them regain intimacy and repair their sex life. Additionally, clients increasingly seek sex and intimacy work about various sexual practices outside of the norms of most sex therapy interventions. This workshop will spend significant time talking about how to provide affirming, culturally specific therapy to LGBTQ, non-monogamous, polyamorous, kinky, and BDSM practicing clients.
